The Cajon is a percussion instrument, which is shaped like a box. It originated from Peru, and has become very popular over recent years to modern day music. The materials and construction are vital to provide a distinctive and well sounded drum. It is played by sitting on top of the drum, and the front is hit by the hands or feet. The drum can be fitted with snares or guitar strings pressing on the front, when hit this causes them to vibrate, which produces a buzz like sound. In addition various sounds can be produced by hitting the sides of the drum, the sound is released from the sound hole commonly in the back of the drum.
